FAQs

What is Shape-Based Development?

It's a flexible project management approach that focuses on solving real business problems quickly. We start with understanding your needs, define clear goals, and deliver working software in fixed timeboxes - typically you'll have early versions of your software within 2 weeks.

How long does a typical project take?

We work in 6-week bets. This timeframe gives us enough room to tackle meaningful problems while maintaining momentum and focus. Each bet is scoped to deliver specific business value, and at the end of the cycle, we evaluate success and determine next steps.

What is a "bet" in your process?

A bet is a focused 6-week project with clear boundaries and goals. Like any smart bet, it has a clear potential payoff for your business, fixed time (6 weeks), and fixed investment. We shape the work upfront to ensure the scope is appropriate and the value proposition is clear.

How do your 6-week bets work?

Each bet starts with a shaped problem - we've already done the research, defined the scope, and identified key business outcomes. The 6-week timebox includes everything from design through to deployment of production-ready code. This focused approach means you get meaningful results without endless cycles of revisions.

What tasks can be done under the service?

We develop wireframes from user flows, convert wireframes into mockups and create interactive clickable prototypes from wireframes and mockups. Important: We need clearly defined user flows. For us to implement a clickable prototype we need a well defined user flow. In some cases, we can work with you during working meetings to help to define these user flows. What do you mean when you say wireframe, mockup or prototype?

This is how we use the various terms:

Wireframe: A low-fidelity representation of a product's interface. It is typically created using simple shapes and lines to represent the layout of the various screens. Wireframes are generally grayscale or monochrome, they avoid dictating colors, styles or typefaces. We use wireframes to communicate the structure of a product's interface to stakeholders and to get early feedback.

Mockup:
A mockup is a static representation of a product's interface. It is typically created using a high-fidelity design tool (we use Figma). Mockups are used to communicate the look and feel of a product to stakeholders and to get feedback on the design.

Prototype: A prototype is an interactive simulation of a digital product. It can be used to test the functionality of a product and to get feedback from users about how it works. We can do both low-fidelity prototypes based on wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes based on mockups.

We use Figma to create our mockups and prototypes. Get started by booking a call through our calendar.

Help me understand Functional, Visual and Conceptual Prototypes

Based on their primary purpose and the level of detail they convey, we categorise prototypes as functional, visual or conceptual.

Functional prototypes focus on testing the core functionality, workflows, and user interactions of a product. They can range in fidelity from low-fidelity (paper sketches, wireframes) to high-fidelity (interactive prototypes that closely resemble the final product). The main goal is to validate the core functionality and identify any usability issues early in the development process.

Visual prototypes are primarily concerned with the visual design, layout, and branding of a product. They are typically high-fidelity, showcasing the intended visual appearance of the final product. The focus is on gathering feedback on aesthetics, branding, and overall user

Conceptual prototypes are used to explore early ideas, generate discussion, and test initial concepts. They are usually low-fidelity, often conveyed through sketches, diagrams, or storyboards. The main objective is to gather feedback on the core concepts and explore potential directions for the product before investing time and resources into more detailed development.

What's the difference between low-fidelity prototypes and high-fidelity prototypes?

Low-fidelity prototypes are less detailed, typically created by combining wireframes. They are ideal for early exploration and quick feedback.

High-fidelity prototypes are more polished, resembling the final product closely and are used for detailed testing and refinement before actual development.

The choice between low and high fidelity depends on the specific goals of the prototyping activity.

Do you offer refunds?

No, we do not offer refunds. To maintain our exceptionally high standards, we devote significant time and care to each client. For this reason, we do not provide refunds. We do value open communication and will address any concerns to ensure you're fully pleased.

What makes your approach different from traditional development?

Instead of rigid plans and lengthy specifications, we focus on understanding your business problem first and shape the solution appropriately. The 6-week timeframe ensures we deliver substantial value while maintaining flexibility and focus throughout development.
